Have fun instructing your lesson! After you do it a few times you will become very comfortable and familiar with the format and method of instruction.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Docent refers to a teacher or instructor. You are a Docent.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Docent, our Lesson Plans allow for a 90 minute presentation ideally.<br \/>\n<\/strong>If you\u00a0have a time restraint, there is a <strong>Homework site <\/strong>where a Quick<br \/>\nReview\u00a0and\u00a0Vocabulary\u00a0for your lesson can be completed by your<br \/>\nstudents before you give your lesson\u00a0and a <strong>Review\/Assessment Quiz<\/strong><br \/>\nfor your lesson can be\u00a0completed by your students\u00a0after your<br \/>\npresentation. You will\u00a0find this Homework site with instructions<br \/>\nunder Docent\u00a0on the menu bar of your Lesson Plan. You will give<br \/>\nstudents\u00a0a link to this Homework site. \u00a0Students will need a User<br \/>\nName and Password to Log in to access this Homework site.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>For schools that require <strong><u>Blended Learning Scheduling<\/u><\/strong> our Lesson<br \/>\nPlans require a minimum of 40-45 minutes. A<strong>\u00a0Quick Review<\/strong> of the History of Art<br \/>\nfrom your Lesson Plans, up until the lesson the students will be taking and<br \/>\n<strong>vocabulary<\/strong> for the lesson they are taking\u00a0can be completed by students<br \/>\nprior to your lesson presentation on their own time. This will allow students<br \/>\nto be prepared for the new subject matter that you are about to instruct. \u00a0They<br \/>\nwill be able to access this information from a <strong>Homework site<\/strong>, which<br \/>\nyou will give them access to by going to <strong>Docent<\/strong> <strong>on the Menu Bar<\/strong> and then to<br \/>\n<strong>Homework <\/strong>where you will find instructions on how your students<br \/>\ncan access this site. They can also access a <strong>Review\/Assessment Quiz<\/strong> from<br \/>\nthis same site. They can take this quiz on their own time after you have<br \/>\ncompleted your lesson.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>For schools that require <strong><u>Block Learning Scheduling<\/u><\/strong> our Lesson Plans work<br \/>\ngreat at 90 minutes. For 40-45 minute lessons minimize the review to what the<br \/>\nstudents learned in their prior lesson or use <strong>Quick Review\u00a0<\/strong>found under<br \/>\n<strong>Docent on our Menu Bar<\/strong>. A one-hour (60 minutes) lesson works well with<br \/>\napproximately 20 minutes for instruction, 20 minutes for the project, and<br \/>\napproximately 20 minutes for the closure portion of the lesson.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Smile, Smile, Smile!<\/strong> Being an Enthusiastic Instructor is contagious.<br \/>\nSmiling reduces stress levels and makes everyone around you feel<br \/>\nbetter.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Please make sure that your students especially in kindergarten to<br \/>\nthird grade, use the rest room before class begins. There is no time once<br \/>\nclass begins.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Before instructing any lesson please read the <strong>History of Art for<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Docents<\/strong> by The Art Docent Company. Look for it under <strong>Docent<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>on our Menu Bar<\/strong>. Before you give each lesson, review the<br \/>\nperiod of Art which you will be instructing that day. Each period of art is<br \/>\ncolor-coded the same as our timeline and Lesson Plan pages in order for<br \/>\nyou to recognize the period of art you will be instructing.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, become familiar with what a Mandala is from our Lesson Plans<br \/>\nand even draw some yourself. This will enable you to know what your<br \/>\nstudents are experiencing when you instruct how to draw a Mandala.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Be sure to read each Lesson Plan to familiarize yourself with the<br \/>\nsubject matter and project. Review the lesson you will be giving as many<br \/>\ntimes as it takes to become proficient. Each lesson is succinct and will require<br \/>\nthe docent to be thoroughly knowledgeable of all subject matter. This<br \/>\nwill ensure an efficient delivery of each lesson.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>It is important to know how much time has been allowed for your lesson plan.<br \/>\nEvery docent should have a watch, a phone, or classroom clock to<br \/>\nensure having the exact time. There must be a cut off time from instruction<br \/>\nto allow students to have enough time to complete their projects and for<br \/>\nthe closure portion of the lesson.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, please be sure you know how many students will be in your<br \/>\nclass so you have all the media on hand for the project that you will be<br \/>\npresenting well in advance of your presentation. As you talk about what<br \/>\nmedia they will use for their\u00a0projects in the lesson plan, display it as well.<br \/>\nHave extra media\u00a0in case it is needed,\u00a0especially white paper. Try to use new<br \/>\nmaterials as\u00a0your students will\u00a0not want to use old and broken crayons for<br \/>\ninstance.\u00a0If for some reason the media for your project is not available,<br \/>\nhave students\u00a0use pencils and paper to draw anything relating to the days<br \/>\nproject.\u00a0Be Creative!<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, familiarize yourself with the project you will instructing<br \/>\nin advance of the Lesson Plan you will be instructing that day. If your<br \/>\nproject requires photo copies, make sure you download and print them<br \/>\nbefore you instruct\u00a0the lesson. Displaying a\u00a0completed project is extremely<br \/>\nhelpful to the\u00a0students and you will then\u00a0experience what they are<br \/>\nexperiencing when\u00a0they are in the process of\u00a0making each project.<br \/>\nThese projects are explicitly\u00a0(clearly) detailed and\u00a0designed to be easily<br \/>\naccomplished.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, always have your students sign their artwork projects.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, assess each student\u2019s project before they bring them home.<br \/>\nSome students may have to complete their projects at home. Please<br \/>\nassess by the use of these questions:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2014<\/span> a. was lesson understood<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2014<\/span> b. was project completed satisfactorily<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2014<\/span> c. did student engage and participate in class\u00a0by answering\u00a0any questions posed<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2014<\/span> d. did student participate in cooperation exercises<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Each Lesson Plan has its own <strong>Review\/Assessment Quiz<\/strong>. Look for it under<br \/>\n<b>Review\/Assessment<\/b>\u00a0<strong>on our Menu Bar<\/strong>.<br \/>\nYou will find the answers under <strong>Docent on our Menu Bar. \u00a0Then go to<br \/>\nReview\/Assessment Answers<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis assessment\u00a0can be given any time before the next lesson. \u00a0You will be able<br \/>\nto access your students answers\u00a0by logging in under\u00a0<strong>Review\/Assessment<br \/>\non our Menu Bar. <\/strong>\u00a0Then go to\u00a0<strong>Docent on your Menu Bar <\/strong>and to your<br \/>\nlesson on\u00a0<strong>Quiz Submission to access your students answers.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, if no one has an answer to a question from your Lesson Plan,<br \/>\nyou may read the answer to your students. If a student asks a question<br \/>\nthat you do not know the answer to, just say that you will get back to<br \/>\nthem with an answer next time you meet for class.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Docent, whenever possible, we suggest that you play classical music\u00a0during<br \/>\nproject time, for classical enrichment. Music should not played be\u00a0too loud.<br \/>\nIt should be played as background music.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The preferred <strong>chronological<\/strong> order of classes is: \u00a0Art of the Caves Part 1 and 2,<br \/>\nAfrican Art and Culture Part 1 and 2, Native Americans of North America \u201cThe<br \/>\nAmerican Indian,\u201d Part 1 and 2, Ancient Egyptian Art and Culture Part 1 and 2,<br \/>\nArt and Culture of\u00a0Ancient Greece Part 1 and 2, Art and Culture of Ancient Rome<br \/>\nPart 1 and 2, Art and Culture of\u00a0The Middle Ages Part 1 and 2, Art and Culture of<br \/>\nthe Renaissance Part 1 and 2, \u201cThe Age of\u00a0Impressionism,\u201d Part 1 and 2 and<br \/>\nHispanic and Latin American Art and Culture Part 1 and 2.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Docent, you should have an attendance sheet with the first name and first<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>initial from the last name of each student for the lesson plan that\u00a0you will<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>be instructing. Your administrator should provide this sheet to\u00a0you at<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>least one day in advance of your instruction date, so that you\u00a0know how<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>many students will be in your class and for you to prepare\u00a0the amount of<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>media you will need for each project. If you do not\u00a0receive this attendance<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>sheet in advance please ask your\u00a0administration organization for this.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Duty of Care for Students<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0&#8211; When non teaching staff, volunteers and external providers agree to perform tasks that require them personally to care for students (in the absence of<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0a member of the teaching staff), they will also owe a duty to take such measures as are responsible in all the circumstances to protect students from risks of harm that reasonably ought to be foreseen.\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Art Docent Company Instructions and Notes for the Art Docent These instructions are specifically for the novice Art Docent.
