About Our Team

Denise T. Federico

Denise Federico, the Founding Director of The Art Docent Co., LLC, is a graduate of the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology, after which she achieved a high level of success as a fashion designer in the sportswear and dress industries honing her skills as a stylist, illustrator, fabric specialist, colorist, and patternmaker for over twenty-five years.

While serving the needs of her two children in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Denise was a mentor who presented classes in fashion design and the arts. Through these presentations she realized the needs of her children and their contemporaries regarding the visual arts. The development of The Art Docent Program evolved from this mentoring encounter with the children. Mrs. Federico then realized that if her children, who attended an excellent school system, well represented in the arts, required this enrichment, then children everywhere would benefit from this as well.

Mrs. Federico recently returned to college to further enhance her artistic abilities and to achieve a degree in Art History to parallel her business specialization in the Humanities and the visual arts for children. Throughout this secondary educational experience, Denise not only became an expert in Art History, but she also increased her technical skills such as Photoshop and became a more acute practicing artist, mastering the use of multi-media. She is an oil, acrylic, and watercolor painter, a two dimensional artist (using pencils, charcoal, and markers), and a collage and assemblage artist. She has achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Contemporary Arts with very high scholastic honors from Ramapo College of New Jersey as a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. The Art Docent Program was officially reviewed by Dean Steve Perry, Dean of Contemporary Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey, and was deemed worthy of a four-credit accreditation. Mrs. Federico conducted research as an Assistant Teacher in the Early Education market for more than two years in order to tailor The Art Docent Program to that age group.

As President of The Art Docent Company, Mrs. Federico has been an educator who successfully instructed and wrote curricula in Art History for thousands of children ages five through twelve for over twenty years. Her classes have been given as in-school programs, after-school programs, and camp programs throughout Bergen County, New Jersey and in New York, as well as resorts nationally. Denise is passionate about instructing the Humanities and visual arts to children resulting in the development of a digital, multi-media, web-based, visual arts education program for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
